Most of us need some quiet time and a quiet place to reflect and recharge. There is no better place to do that than in your home. Whether you live in a big house or a small one, with or without other people, there are things you can do to make your home a haven of calm and serenity.
- Contain all things: The enemy of any serene space is clutter. Storing things in their proper places lessen visual chaos. Less stuff means less to worry about, which is also calming. Select visible items that are easy to maintain and look as if nothing needs to be done which promote idleness.
- Color: Life in Thailand is full of bright colors and patterns. Create calm with colors inside your beachside condominium. Restrained color palettes bring order to the chaos of life. Use the variation of a single, tranquil, light-color palette on the walls and ceilings throughout your beach condominium unit. Keep trim details to minimum and of a muted color, and continue them from space to space. Soothing colors in large expanses are relaxing. The tone-on-tone approach of several shade of light color gives a feeling of warmth and continuity but avoid the stark feeling that can come of too much one hue, maximize the serene feeling. Cool and pastel colors can make a room seem larger and reflect light. Limit yourself to two or three hues in each room for visual harmony. Choose the dominant color first, and then add a few bright accent colors to punctuate the space.
- Light: Soft relaxing lighting soothes the nerve. Light fixtures should be recessed, concealed, or minimal. Make sure you have the right amount of light in the right places so you don’t feel as though you are living in a cave or on stage. 40-watt bulb place high casts soft glow. Put all lights on dimmers so you can set the mood for working, entertaining, or relaxing.
- Furniture: Serene-space is about mellow visual stimulant. Whatever your style, furnish your beach condominium unit with streamlined, low to the ground pieces to create a calm and relaxing space. Choose natural material with minimal architectural details. Warm wooden pieces give a room a casual quality that makes it feels friendly and carefree, which is relaxing. Arrange furnishings symmetrically to promote a sense of organized space. Chaise lounge (typically an upholstery chair that has elongated seating area with exposed legs resembles a sort of daybed with a headrest and can have a back or backless piece) give a serene sense of comfort, stability, and restful feeling.
- Fabrics: Use comfortable and soft fabrics with muted subtle colors for upholstery pieces. Patterns and prints are equal to visual noise. Textile luxuries such as a mud-washed silk throw signal sumptuousness and blissfulness of serene retreat. Think of window treatments as extensions of your walls. Treat them simply with a fabric that is the same color as the walls so that you enlarge rather than constrain the space.
- Accessories: Utilize local source of treasures such as driftwood, seashells, and orchids to add accents to an otherwise mellow and earthy space. Add nautical natural found objects such as sand dollars, starfish and beach glass to your beachside condominium to create harmonious islands of calm and tranquility from the drumbeats of surf.
