- Contain all things: The enemy of any serene space is clutter. Storing things in their proper places lessen visual chaos. Less stuff means less to worry about, which is also calming. Select visible items that are easy to maintain and look as if nothing needs to be done which promote idleness.

Textile luxuries such as a mud-washed silk throw signal sumptuousness and blissfulness of serene retreat. Think of window treatments as extensions of your walls. Treat them simply with a fabric that is the same color as the walls so that you enlarge rather than constrain the space.
